Leading Russian operator selects Sub10 Systems and Vilcom Holding for backhauling small cell network
Vilcom Holding deploying Sub10’s Liberator-V1000 to provide backhaul for small cell traffic across Russia
One of Russia’s leading cellular operators, serving more than 100 million subscribers, has selected the Liberator-V1000 Ethernet point-to-point radio from Sub10 Systems for small cell backhaul throughout its network. The radios will be deployed for short haul links backhauling both the current 3G network and the operator’s rapidly expanding 4G / LTE network.
The radio project covers the entire of Russia, with Sub10 initially focusing on deployments in Moscow and the Northwest of the country including much of European Russia and St. Petersburg. Sub10’s partner, Vilcom Holding, will be responsible for local delivery and services, installing the Liberator-V1000 radio links and integrating their management with the operator’s existing SNMP network management system.
Sergey Mikhaylov, Head of the Pre-sale department at Sub10’s partner Vilcom Holding, comments: “The Sub10 radios provide the ideal combination of high capacity and high performance in the unlicensed 60 GHz band. This means that we can serve our customer with backhaul capacity of more than 500 Mbit/s while also rapidly deploying the small form factor units at both roof and street level, with the ability to co-site multiple links owing to their small beam width.”
The Sub10 Systems and Vilcom Holding partnership was selected through a public tendering process, with the companies demonstrating the appropriate mix of commercial and technical criteria for success in the tender process.
Tomas Bergmann, Channel Director at Sub10 Systems, comments: “Russia has always been a strategic market for us and we have already established a successful presence through good partner selection and close relationships with our chosen distributors and resellers. Our selection, along with Vilcom Holding, for this large scale rollout further confirms the great fit of our technology in the small cell backhaul market and the skills that our partner brings to support the expansion of cellular services across the operator’s coverage area.”
Deployment of the Liberator-V1000 links is commencing immediately and will continue over the coming months as the operator expands its cellular network across Russia
